Name: Dionté Grey
Title and Organization: Site Director | UrbanPromise Charlotte
Education and Experience: I attended Tusculum College (Greeneville, TN) and earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Sport Management. I moved to Charlotte, NC in 2012 and began working in the Ashley Park community as a mentor & tutor. From 2012-2016, I served Ashley Park in my role as a Program Specialist with Right Moves for Youth. I joined the UrbanPromise team to focus more on the students, families, and community of Ashley Park and west Charlotte.
How I help scholars and families: UrbanPromise Charlotte is an afterschool program that helps students improve in reading and literacy, assists with homework, teaches Bible classes, and supports emotional/social development in a Christian environment.
Why I am passionate about the work I do: Working with the youth is a daily reminder of the beauty of humanity and a glimpse into the future of our world.
A quote that inspires me: I hated every minute of training, but I said, 'Don't quit. Suffer now and live the rest of your life as a champion.' – Muhammed Ali
Outside of work, you will find me: Enjoying life with my wife and daughter!
Other information: The mission of UrbanPromise Charlotte is to provide Charlotte’s children and youth with the spiritual, academic, and social development necessary to become Christian leaders determined to restore their communities.
